But its shape had already emerged even before Dawkins,
largely due to Cavalli-Sforza and Feldman, who are the
real founders in terms of all the current methodology.
Boyd and Richerson, and Durham, made important
additions to the shape in the early 80s. Nobody
seriously involved in the field actually claims it is
'new', merely that public consciousness of it is quite
new (and that the current public consciousness of it
is largely due to Dennett's writings on it in the
early 90s).
