This reminds me of the source-path-goal archetype put forth in the
brilliant and seminal work PHILOSOPHY IN THE FLESH: The
Embodied Mind and its Challenge to Western Thought, by Lakoff &
Johnson, which I of course recommend to everyone. It is a detailed
and comprehensive exploration of the consequences of three
fundamental contemporary cognitive discoveries: 1) The mind is
inherently embodied, 2) Thought is mostly unconscious, and 3)
Abstract concepts are largely metaphorical (using metaphors that
reference concrete perception and action). Look it up on Amazon
and check it out!
