Once we receive memes, we can cognitively deconstruct them into their constituent components and recombine these componnents in novel ways (call this gestation in our conceptual wombbrains; the new meme, born of multiple parents, is growing and changing); at this stage it is latent and possible, rather than manifest and actual. It is born when it is successfully propagated to another; it could, on the other hand, be placed in suspended animation (in media fertilization), waiting for another brain to thaw out the pages. Memetic hooks are promemelife, as they increase propagation rates regardless of what we would otherwise choose; memetic filters are promemeabortion, as they decrease propagation rates, regardless of what we would otherwise choose. The lack of either hooks or filters is prochoice-for-you-and-me, as we are able to more clearly jude a meme, and whether we wish to accept or reject it, on its merits and not on propaganda tricks, pro or con.
