    I do not see the problem. Memes replicate with much less fidelity than genes but much greater velocity, leaving in Dawkins words "the lumbering gene far behind". Sorry I cannot remember the precise reference.

    For the meme as 'signifier' a multiplicity of 'signifieds' is a "good trick" (sensu Dennett) in memetic replication space.
