    Actually as I wrote that I thought someone smart would think of something
    like that response!

    What I'm getting at though, is that a lot of our physical behaviour is not
    conscious, and so doesn't require belief. As far as we know other animals
    don't have beliefs- or at least ones which they feel the need to express the
    way humans do through behaviours such as ritual- and yet they survive.
