    You are defining political arena to narrowly. He achieved clarity of thinking at
    the expense of votes. Being a politician demands that one think of many
    constituencies which tends to lead to less clarity. It's easy to get up and say
    what you think; it's hard to represent often clashing interests. It's demanding
    and frustrating work to those who are not experienced and talented politicians.
