    The translation part is tricky, especially when relying upon how a
    translator reworks his words. I wish I could read him in French. As I recall
    besoin has been a very problematic word.

    Other problems come from looking at him through modern lenses, either taking
    the anti-Lamarck stance in scoffing at his blunders or OTOH trying to revamp
    his ideas into a more contemporary neo-Lamarckian system.
