    It's one of the real internet classics, but I suppose, like all such
    stuff, known only to a few these days. (Even the net must succumb to
    entropy!) When the net consisted mainly of computing-related newsgroups,
    this was a very common response to a request for help. It stands for
    Read The Fucking Manual.

    (I know this is supposed to be a serious discussion forum, but if The
    Guardian is willing to print that particular FLW these days, then...)

    I don't know about "the jargon of its torpidity", but I'd have said that
    techies are just as guilty of jargonising as bureaucrats. And academics
    could well be the worst!
