Is that a misunderstanding of the term 'brownie points'?

In the UK this is a reference (at least as I've alwasy understood it) to a
movement akin to the Boy Scouts, for young girls called the Brownies, and
the girls earn points towards getting badges for certain skills (e.g. first
aid), hence the term. (the whole movement's all very neo-fascist, with
uniforms and everything, but there you go).
