    Sounds like the way it is and mostly always has been. Yes, young girls
    are dreadfully body-conscious and a lot of self-loathing happens- yes,
    this decreases their self-image, and, well, makes them prime targets for
    abusive people.

    Abuse is also on the rise. Lots to account for here.
