    Actually, freezing has survival value in the wild. Not only does it make it at least somewhat more difficult to be seen, but in many predators flight triggers the chase.

    There was a remarkable documentary recently about a young lioness who
    "adopted" an antelope fawn. Presumably part of the reason was that the fawn did not try to run away. It lived for some time, before being eaten by another lion.
