    This comes close to what I see is happening in the brain, though ! I said this before, to really understand the meme you have to count in all possible angles of its existence, that is thus, like you said, counting in all possible accompanying excitations and others. That means also counting in all possible emotions/ behaviors attached to it.

    That is, I think what is happening in the brain. Each new set of info starts up a ' network ' of underlying info to get us the picture we need to survive Seeing a rat is accompied with all possible emotions/ traits and habits... socially/ cultural or whatever agreed upon. Each new picture of a rat sets the network in motion, time after time again.
