I got the feeling we were seen like that, as well. I certainly am not
comfortable with public displays of any belief.
I do think one reason Gore is not president is because of his running
mate's insistence upon public display of his faith. No-one likes things
forced upon them. And, IMHO, it's not that Bush was given the election
by any chicanery, it's that Gore just plain lost it.
Public piousness is not regarded as admirable by New Englanders, for
sure. One surety of our constitution was no persecution because of
religion. There is nothing that demands religiousity, and nothing that
forbids it, as long as it and the state don't mix.
That homogeneity has been historically shown to be dangerous. Of course,
unless one studies history....
So why does it say In God We Trust on our money?
Don't ask me, I barely have any and who is left to trust?
