I second the cite request. Feral children do not lack language _skills_,
they lack the experience of language during the necessary [cultural]
developmental period wherein those skills are utilized and processed.
As such, they may never be able to supply another the meme of 'self' but,
not being able to pass along a meme for something does not mean you ain't
got it....
It is also my recollection that feral children pass the mirror test.
