    Alas no atavistic regression to former stages or states? Still, evolution
    via selection can shape an eye, where a change of ecology, such as dwelling
    in a cave in absence of selection related to sight can allow an eye to
    unravel. There can be gain or loss of character states, though I'm hesistant
    to cast this in loaded terms of progression and regression.
