As I understand this nasty little piece of history, the Brits tried their
best, in the face of massive pressure from international Jewry and the USA
to abandon the Palestinians, to achieve some sort of just outcome. However
the Stern and Irgun terror groups, with lots of support from the USA, made
governing the mandate impossible. The modern State of Israel was the
product of terror. Most of its early leaders had prices on their heads for
terrorism, but that was all forgotten in the re-write. They are the good
guys now - aren't they?
See if you can get Jonathan Dimbleby's book 'The Palestinians' Quartet
Books, 1980.
