Rugby Union spread through Wales because the principal college for Methodist missionaries happened to be a rugby-playing college.
Football-soccer spread through South America because the railways were mainly built by English engineers.
Southern Australia is the cradle of Aussie Rules because it has a higher population of Irish descent, and Aussie Rules football is a direct descendent of Irish (Gaelic) football. Queensland plays Rugby League because of a higher proportion of northern English ethnic origin.
