    Parrots are capable of recognizing abstractions like color and
    quantity. See Irene Maxine Pepperberg, 'The Alex Studies' , Harvard
    University Press, 1999.

    Of course I consider that portion of birdsong acquired from other birds
    memetic. Also I believe that even in humans acquisition of some memes does
    not require any abstract thinking at all. For example, I had a friend who
    had a strange way of emphasizing certain words in her sentences that I
    found I had picked up just by hanging around with her.
