And I believe that we must distingush between the meaningful information communicated and its mode of transmission; otherwise, reading (the selfsame) sentence on a computer screen, reading it in a book, hearing it spoken face to face, overhearing it around the corner, hearing it on the radio, hearing it on the tv, and hearing it on the telephone all radically differ in meaning (without even considering peripherals such as context).
