There was an article in the paper yesterday that said suicides in the United
States now outnumber the number of murders. I don't think very many of them
qualify as martyrdom. There also seems to be a rise in the number of people
in America who kill others and then end their own lives. Columbine was a
prime example. Going postal, for example has little or nothing to do with
religion or martyrdom. Killing one's wife or girlfriend and then committing
suicide also seems to be a popular frenzy. I don't know if it's meme
related or just a desire not to go through the trauma of a trial and life
imprisonment.
