I am on the Ph.D. committe of a bright student whose dissertation and
research are expliciltly on memes: they consist of an applied experiment in
memetics: the design and launch and monitoring of a meme designed to change
the environmental behaviors of a village in an environmentally-endangered
area. The academic background of the committee is diverse and a substantial
amount of the student's effort has had to go into educating the committee
    members about memes.
