Granted that aid to the Provos or whomever may unfortunately be coming from
our shores. I'm not legitimizing anything for which either wing (Provo or
Original) of the IRA or Sinn Fein may stand. Peaceful reform is the only way
to go. Too bad the civil rights movement in Northern Ireland went sour in
the 60's.
I'm wondering how this mess fits into the context of the history between
British and Irish as in the bad treatment Irish may have endured over the
years and more recently how the Catholics may have been discriminated
against and gerrymandered in Northern Ireland and how much better
Protestants such as Orangemen and UVF look when compared to the IRA or Sinn
Fein, however loyal to the crown they may be. Educate an ignorant Yank on
the history of the Troubles.
And what of the stories of people such as Gerry Conlon? All I'm going on are
memories of that movie "In the Name of the Father". How long were he and his
dad (Giuseppe?)in prison and did they belong there?
