dissertation...)
"The bruchid beetle _Callosobruchus maculatus_ moved onto the poisonous
_Vicia faba_ (the broad bean). Between 5 and 10% of the larvae survive
on _Vicia_, because these individuals lack ß-glucosidase, which means
they cannot hydrolyse the pyrimidic glucosides in _Vicia_ to their toxic
form (Huignard et al, 1996). This shows how a loss of function can
actually be a gain. Ants manage fine without the wings of their wasp
ancestors!"
