    I think I'd rather have put it in terms of a propensity for general tool use
    is genetic, rather than the psych. stuff. I'm not sure I buy the extent of
    the phallic symbol thing in relation to guns- I'd be stupid to deny that
    it's there, but it seems to be more important in things like totem poles, or
    maypoles, than in guns where the utiliy function would seem to over-ride its
    sexual symbolism (which perhaps goes along for the ride). Guns are
    barrel-shaped for technical reasons, for example, maypoles on the other
    hand, and symbolically shaped...
