    Jamie,
I have written an introductory paper on memes that may help. Here is the URL:
    http://www.geocities.com/brent_silby/what_is_a_meme.html

I am curious, what subject/course is the essay for? I have introduced memetics in some philosophy tutorials but am not aware of any other classes that discuss the theory -- though I think it is applicable to a number of domains.

All the best with your essay...
    Brent.
