Isn't all human thought inherently a quest for meaning?

I'm reminded of a comment made by Arthur C. Clarke (his year's approaching
of course, although we ain't gonna find that monolith)-

'Either we're alone in the universe or we're not, and either situation is
    terrifying' (or something like that).

We want to know answers to questions, and most of all we want to know why.

Do chimps or dolphins want to know the why of existence?

Is it that desire that makes us open to memes or whatever the hell else in
    going on in culture?

    Vincent

[BTW, any of our American colleagues considering moving to Florida so next
time round the 'free' world gets a 'leader' who can say the word subliminal
and understand it? OK, it'll mean voting for Hillary- despite her
protestations otherwise, but hey she's a smart dresser! Michael Moore on
'Newsnight' (UK current affairs show) last night said the only good thing
about Bush winning, would be that would wake up every morning and say to
himself 'hey, I'm smarter than the President of the United States!']
