    First off, 'altar ego' -- marvellous :D

    Anyway. I have to say I like the predator thing a lot as it just seems to make sense. Fire certainly doesn't _prevent_ predation; I mean even now camping in woods where the wild things are is no trivial activity! Anyway I won't repeat all the points but it does make lots of sense -- the randomness of it for instance would favour some sort of explanation and that could be religious (let's face it if it was more than a few thousand years ago what other explanation could there have been).

    It is always interesting to consider how an old event might look through the 'deep time goggles' and in this case it makes for a nice self-consistent story.
