It's a bit more subtle than that, Mark. Not just growth factors but
a whole host of molecules acting in a finely tuned program, the
details of which are known in depth. Peter Lawrence called his book:
"The Making of a Fly: The Genetics of Animal Design" for a
reason. That wasn't hyperbole, even when he wrote it in
1992. That's where the state of play already was at the time, and
now it's an order of magnitude more advanced. There's nothing
problematic about it.
