Jung was well acquainted with *The Poet*. Noll was looking for something to
explain a related terminology used by Jung "the dominants". Jung also used
the term "primordial image" (Urbild) that he cited Swiss historian Jacob
Burckhardt for, but this could have roots in Goethe too. I'm not sure how
much use Burckhardt himself made of the Urbild concept. Jung certainly ran
with the ball.
I've gotten a hold of a relatively recent bio of Jung by Deirdre Bair. I'd
hope she could clarify a few things for me.
Just bought my own copy of _Riddle of the Universe_ BTW.
