Good questions!
Just off the top of my head ... first reaction ...
Q1: A statement that fits into an established belief system. A flat
earth fit the limited information available and also appeared to fulfill the
then prevailing geocentric notion of the universe.
Q2: Same belief system. If I feel strongly about a subject...
enough to have strong convictions that I am right ... then to ME it is the
truth and must be shared with persons of lesser belief. To some extent this
is fostered by an organization of that belief... religious, political,
business, etc. When a belief becomes iconic then whatever the "truth" is
becomes a part of that belief and must be passed on.
Quick and dirty... will have to think about this one for a while!
Good questions!
