    The is only one essential path to power. Being social doesn't mean being
    "nice". Adolecents in the cafeteria are deeply social beings, and quite cooperative. Power, there, is all about gossip, smiles and knives. Not unlike the rest of the world.

    There are various mechanisms, but power is getting other people to act in your best interest. The relationship involves two people: it is symbiotic. A cut-throat environment is one in which competition over power is fierce. It is a social environment. If it weren't a cooperative one, there would be no point.
