    Because the performance model is a model of cultural evolution, not a model of imitated and/or social behavior. Is culture much more than simply imitated and/or social behavior? Yes, it is.

    Are the imitative acts of behavior presently witnessed and studied in other animals explainable without culture? Yes, they are.

    Hauser's work is pre-eminently suited to finding the mechanisms of imitative and social behaviors, and he sees no need for culture to be introduced.
