[BJ] In the field of diagnostic medicine we would call this a
cancer. It is a system that for some unknown reason goes suddenly hay-wire.
Most Cancers are a result of some disruption in the normal genetic
functioning of the cell -- a meme does not work or works over time --- I
would not pretend to find a meme in the context of the "cancer" that sprang
    up in Central Park.
            [BJ]
            Sometimes things just happen!!!

As in the case of specific cancers --- Lung cancer for one --- a
contributing cause can be established. In this case the euphoria of a major
party atmosphere .. may have been a contributing factor, but in no way can
be said to have been THE cause. Some combination of factors and a
disruption of normal behavior patterns (memes) more than likely caused this
    failure.
