Where, physically, are memes when they are not being performed?

"I'm trying to understand the difference between memes being recorded in an object (like a book or mind) and in a performance."

"The first step to understanding it is to realize that _there are no memes_ being recorded in the book. The book is the _artifactual result_ of the performance/meme (like the trail of a snail), which makes it a special case of performance, but _not a meme_- _nor_ does it _contain_ memes."

Dope. From what I've read that isn't clearly agreed on among the proponents of Performance. I'm going to go with your statement on the issue as it is definate.

"The performance model is very strict about things being in two places at once, in that it denies such supernatural positions."

I'm not sure I understand this. Let's say that there are 100 performances of "It's a Small World" in the world simultaneously. I'll agree that they aren't 'the same' performance, but aren't they performances of the same thing? Don't the performances contain the same memes? Isn't that an example of a 'thing being two places at once?'

What I'm still looking for is an explict answer to the question:

==Where, physically, are memes when they are not being performed.==

    I double-dog-dare you to answer that!!! :-)

    Best,

    Reed
