I do not endorse much of what the National Republic stands for, as I am
a social liberal and a fiscal conservative (Bush is neither). I am,
however, a foreign policy realist, as he has so far been in this instance
(although to be truly realistic he's going to have to engage in the nation-
building he once abhorred), and the papers by Victor Davis Hanson
(see his archives) articulately laid out the case for US policy as it
progressed, from 9/11 until the present time. I do believe that the
honest position of all true liberals is to embrace the root of the word
(liberty), not just for themselves, but for others as well, especially when
those others are being murdered and dominated by fascist
totalitarianisms and denied a democratic voice in their own and their
countries' affairs.
