    Did the cyanobacteria make a conscious choice among alternatives when they changed their position relative to light conditions? IIRC prokaryotes don't have organ systems such as brains which would allow them such complexity of decision. I think a recent subthread had ended at the point of whther prokaryotes had organelles.

    BTW are you the saame Christopher Taylor who co-authored a paper with Daniel Dennett, which he discusses in his recent book _Freedom Evolves_?
