    Greetings, everyone,

    A quick note.

Some of us on this list have been tracking the memes being used re. the 'war on terrorism' and Afghanistan.

The language just mutated sharply, as evidenced in today's newspapers:

"Allies" are now fighting "rebels" and "guerillas."

"Northern Alliance", "Taliban" and "Pashtun" seem no longer in vogue.

This parallels the early Soviet experience in Afghanistan, and increases concern that the US will slip into the role the USSR was to play.

    Best regards, Lawrence
