    Hi Jeremy -- no, of course the US was not alone in stopping Hitler, and indeed I am sure it could be demonstrated that other peoples or countries sacrificed more to do so per capita than the US. My apologies for not thinking that through more, or suggesting that we were alone.

    How about the Marshall plan? Or, earlier, Wilson's Fourteen Points, which enshrined the idea of self-determination of peoples? The League of Nations idea (though the US isolationists then blocked our own joining, IIRC.
