    But all this points out one distinct thing that bugs me - we're *all* looking at this from a HUMAN point of view...and quite obviously, not all of nature is human. In fact, quite a tiny portion of it is!

    So are memes a human creation or are they a thing distinct and separate from it? If the latter, then we need to look at it all from a different viewpoint (the viewpoint of the memes, specifically).

    I don't think that intelligence is either. Intelligence is, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. This is the problem with the AI project. Can you imagine how hard it would be to create a universally acclaimed artificial beauty? Jeremy
