Scott:
There's been a lot of anti-Hispanic bigotry in Florida. Upon exposure to
Hispanic (esp. Miami Cuban) culture I found myself appreciating it much
more. I can't say I'm all that fluent in Spanish, but I'm glad one of my
requirements in school was some semesters in a foreign language. I wish I
was fluent in several languages and more familiar with different cultures.
Try going to Amsterdam, it's a big melting pot of a great many different
cultures, nationalities and what have you. (Some Dutch people say,
with a sentimental dry wit, they have the feeling for being in a foreign
country when they are in Amsterdam).
Phil.
