    I think this is not a sufficient explanation....the overall Northeastern US
    culture of the time seems fairly receptive to
    the birth & nurture of many of these types of cults/sub-religions/etc. Many
    survive to this day quite happily. This lot did not, and the fundamental
    difference is a lack of genetic transference.
