    I thought the Shakers have been around since late 1700's? (See
    http://www.shakerworkshops.com/sdl.htm) If so, they did last longer
    than a few generations, so the memes were propagating byond the
    genetic limitations. I guess with close to 0% of genes functioning,
    it just couldn't last longer than a few hundred years, which is still
    quite impressive. (I would assume it couldn't last 70 years for the
    obvious reasons...)
