If you look at the way different groups around the world have handled the
grammar problem, you can see that word order is as arbitrary as sound order.
What we have inherited is more a matter of where it came from than any
genetic design. Having a grammar may be necessary but the shape of the
grammar varies widely around the world. Americal Indian languages almost
seem to come from another planet.
