>> BTW, most social scientists i have encountered do not like
memetics.
<Have any offered any interesting reasons?>
When I gave a short seminar paper on memetics to colleagues in my
department last year, there was a lot of anxiety about it (might have been
me!), mainly to do with concerns about social darwinism,
deterministic/biological terminology when talking about culture and so on.
After periods exposed to the influence of people like Baudrillard,
Derrida, Kuhn etc. etc., many social scientists regard science, and anything
stemming from/relating to natural sciences, with suspicion.
For some of us in the field though, this has caused a major crisis
in social science research. See Miller & Philo's 'Market Killing' for a
diatribe on the negative impacts of such ideas.
