In sexual reproduction is the novelty that results in the genes or in their
allelic combination overall? I inherited alleles (variant gene forms) from
my parents. Were these alleles springing forth de novo within me then? And
what new genes would I have relative to my parents?

Now I may carry a unique combination of alleles I suppose. OTOH, a smidgen
of parental mutations may have made it into me, mostly neutral or
deleterious, but maybe a *few* advantageous ones. Were these mutations I now
carry, say silent point mutations, a result of the sexual union?

I'm still trying to hash out what is implicit in your saltational leap from
sexual copulation to social combination. It's gotta be more than a word play
on intercourse (sexual or social) BTW.
