    I can't open the site you give, but the interpretation is valid. There are
    arguably other examples on geologic / genetic time scales of runaway dominance
    by particular replicators causing planetary scale feedback. Ice ages follow
    periods of excessive dominance by carbon fixers (plants), for example.
