This paper is how to produce artificial agent so that they can relate to us, since we are used to relating to others who can relate to us etc. The proposal is to get the agents to construct their selves while situated in a human society. To this end a model of how agents might learn about their own decision making processes is described which is broadly compatible with contempory thinking on the nature of the human self. Then the paper works towards one possible implementation of such an agent both in terms of tis necessary individual powers and in terms of the society it inhabits. Some simple consequences of developing an agent in this way are considered.
