Dear Robin,

In fact, given the difficulty (or impossibility) of dealing with the meme itself, I think there's no harm in looking for similarity of m-forms, as long as we use it only as a convenient guide to likely meme replication, and don't say it's required.

I agree that there are (or should be) other ways to validate the transmission of memes than the equivalence of m-forms, but has that methodology been developed? I confess that I am unaware of work in the area of validation.
