Recently I tried to talk about Hardy-Weinberg equilibria on the list, but I
found it hard to represent the equations in ASCII format.......

But seriously, I don't know who is qualified to discuss the areas you
require. My own speciality is in cryptography eg. surprisals, Kullback,
periodicity detection algorithms, vocabulary detection, a bit of Shannon's
informational entropy etc. Recently I've moved over into Hidden Markov
Models and I'm doing a bit of machine learning theory too, mostly automated
cluster detection. I used to be a C++ man, and very much liked the old
Borland compiler, but I find the new Microsoft Visual C++ too unwieldy
(sorry Mr Gates, sir) so I've started using Perl 5.005 which is very ugly by
comparison with C++, but I find it can do almost everything that C++ could,
albeit a little more slowly in most cases.

I've often wondered how I can put any of this to work in memetics, but so
