Actually, I don't think Richard or anyone else from COV was aware I
had logged on to this list. Certianly, I didn't receive any encouragement
from anyone to comment on the recent exchange. I was driven to do
so by my personal impression that your post was so...the exact word escapes
me...juvenile? immature? that I felt anything purporting to be a
"scholarly" list shouldn't tolerate it. In the interest of full
disclosure, I have
had dinner with Richard a couple of times when he's been in Boston,
and I did read his book. I own a copy of yours, too. I own a number
of books, actually, and I've had dinner with other authors. I don't
expect this to temper your obvious paranoia, but there it is.

Your post was unacceptable. I simply didn't have the time to
comment on the rest of it. Rest assured, if anyone ever asks me
what I think of you, I'm going to send them a transcript of the
exchange and let them judge for themselves.
